Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD

3/26/2018

Picture

Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD System provides comfort and confidence when you need it, allowing your vehicle to adapt to each surface underneath you. Super Select give you four settings to choose from, each suited to individual driving conditions.

2H (2WD High Range)

When in 2H power is sent solely to the rear axle where it is distributed by an open rear differential. This mode is best suited to open road use and dry weather urban use where low traction situations are unlikely to occur.

4H (Full Time 4WD)

When switched across to 4WD all wheels are driven via the transfer case with an open centre differential. This means all four wheels will send power to the ground while acting independently of one another. This provides the Driver with extra traction on rough roads and when extra control is needed on bitumen.

4HLC (4WD High Range- Locked Centre Differential)

When things start getting rugged, activating 4HLC locks the centre differential. This means all four wheels front and rear will receive equal power to help maintain  vehicle stability and control.

4LLC (4WD Low Range with locked Centre Differential)

When traction is at an all time low, activating LLC puts the transmission into a lower gear set, allowing power to be delivered slowly through the locked centre differential to all four wheels. This provides excellent traction on steep hills, and and snow.

What is an ANCAP Safety Rating?

3/21/2018

Cars are often advertised or reported as having an ANCAP Safety Rating, but what does it mean?

ANCAP Safety Ratings are published for a range of new passenger, sport utility (SUV) and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) entering the New Zealand and Australian and New Zealand markets, using a rating of 0 to 5 Stars.

ANCAP safety ratings indicate the level of safety a vehicle provides for occupants and pedestrians in the event of a crash, as well as its ability-through technology- to avoid or minimise  the effects of a crash. These independent safety ratings are used to compare the relative safety between vehicles of a similar mass.

These Safety Ratings are determined  based on a series of internationally recognised, independent crash tests and safety assessments- involving a range of destructive physical crash tests an assesment of on-board safety features and equipment and performance testing of active collision avoidance technologies.

Vehicles will be evaluated against four key areas from January 1st 2018.
  • Adult Occupant Protection
  • Child Occupant Protection
  • Pedestrian Protection
  • Safety Assist

There is a range of tests and assesments conducted in each area, with vehicles required to meet the minimum score thresholds for each star rating level.  The overall star rating is limited by the lowest performing area of assessment.

Below is a breakdown of the Four Areas and the how they are Scored/Rated.

Loading up the boot with your hands full has never been easier with Volkswagen's Electric Tailgate. The Easy- Open function means simply by waving your foot under a sensor the tailgate opens which makes it extremely convenient when you are loaded down with lots of items. Closing the tailgate again is as easy as pressing a button or allowing the Easy Close function to shut the tailgate automatically as you move away from the vehicle. This Feature comes as standard on Highline and R-Line models.

Volkswagen 4MOTION- Active Control.

Picture
For added confidence in adverse driving conditions you can't go past Volkswagen's 4MOTION  all-wheel drive system with Active Control. Active Control allows you to tailor your driving experience by choosing one of four special all-wheel drive modes (snow, on-road and two off-road settings: one automatic and one variable) via a rotary switch.  A central button activates Driving  Profile Selection which offers further personalisation of the on-road mode with Eco, Normal and Sport profiles available to the driver.
