Taranaki Retreat is a New Zealand Charity that provides a safe space for those in need of time out or a place where people can to recharge their batteries. The Retreat provides a lodge with an all-inclusive policy containing the objective that those in the Taranaki Community in need of support are able to stay free of charge.
" We seek to offer short-term stay, and the opportunity to be befriended and heard in complete confidence, without judgement and with compassion and warmth.” Said Project Co-Ordinator Jamie Allen.
Taranaki has a higher than average suicide rate, and as such the need for a retreat such as the one this charity provides is increased. Depression is a keenly felt rural concern, meaning that having a safe space in a region where dairying is a leading industry is of importance.
