Mitsubishi Motors has celebrated a stellar year in 2017 by achieving 10,000 new vehicle sales in 2017, with a month remaining.  This cements Mitsubishi as the fastest growing mainstream brand in the automotive sector.

"Our Focus has been to deliver eye-catching,dynamic vehicles that suit modern Kiwi lifestyles and offer excellent value for money, while ensuring every aspect of the customer experience is positive and enjoyable."  said Daniel Cook general manager of Sales and Marketing.

Eight Years of consecutive year-on year growth has seen Mitsubishi New Zealand increase it's total Car and LCV share to 7.4%  supported by compelling and innovative new releases and a comprehensive approach to customer service. In 2015 Mitsubishi was the most googled car brand in New Zealand.

In 2017 thus far diesel Ute Sales have grown 20% year on year while the SUV segment has grown 20%. In the same period sales of Triton, ASX and Outlander have outstripped the market with increases of 29%, 46% and 60% respectively. Tech Tip: Volkswagen's Start- Stop System.

11/27/2017

Volkswagen's Start-Stop System automatically turns off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stand still. The system helps reduce emissions and fuel consumption  by stopping the engine.  When the accelerator is pressed again the engine will automatically kick back in and you can resume motoring as normal.

Volkswagen's Electronic Brake Distribution.

Every vehicles centre of gravity shifts forward when the brakes are applied. This increases the risk of the rear wheels locking up due to the reduction in traction.  EBD uses the solenoid valves in the ABS unit to regulate braking power at the rear wheels, decreasing the chances of the rear of the vehicle swerving out under heavy braking.

The New Plymouth Food Bank is holding its annual Food Drive on the 4th of December which will involve over 200 volunteers out on the streets of New Plymouth and Bell Block collecting food for the Food Bank.

The Food Drive takes place from 5:30pm and volunteers/ vehicles are needed to collect and stack food.  The objective of the Food Drive is to stockpile food on the shelves for the coming year.

"We take donations of food from individuals and business and then give this to individuals and families in need of food. We offer a hand up and not a hand out." said Sharon Wills Food Bank Manager.

The Food Bank is located on Vivian Street behind the Peace Hall and is open to clients Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12.30pm-2pm only. The rest of the week volunteers work to stock the shelves and pick up food.

Ms. Wills uses a Mitsubishi ASX purchased from WR Phillips to pick up donations from businesses and has found it to be an essential part of keeping the Food Bank shelves stocked.
"I purchased the ASX while in a previous role for its space and comfort and have found that the car is great for varying sized  loads, seats up,seats down, parcel tray in or out and has a lot more room inside than you think!"

The Food Bank receives referrals from many agencies in New Plymouth including Women’s Refuge, Budget Advice, Community Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Tui Ora and Barnardo's as well as self-referrals.

Those wishing to volunteer non-perishable items, their services or a vehicle for use in the Food Drive can contact Sharon on 06 758 2757 or email: foodbank.np@gmail.com .

AdBlue Technology. What Is It?

11/12/2017

AdBlue Technology is now present in the majority of TDI (diesel) models in the Volkswagen range.  AdBlue helps to protect the environment by cleaning exhaust gases which also means that vehicles comply with the new EU6  exhaust emissions regulations.
AdBlue is a non-toxic,non-flammable; bio-degradable urea and water based liquid based additive that processes the gases in a car exhaust system to remove harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. The AdBlue solution is stored in a tank positioned next to the vehicles conventional fuel tank.  This is normally accessed via a cap in the rear of the vehicle, however the positioning may vary depending on model.  The system works by injecting minute amounts of the solution in the exhaust system when the engine is running. The chemicals in AdBlue help break down the polluting chemicals into harmless water vapour and nitrogen gas.
The rate of consumption of AdBlue can vary depending on driving conditions, driving style, journey types, and environmental conditions. However most passenger vehicles will only consume approximately 1.5 Litres every 1000km.

A light will appear on your Dashboard when the AdBlue tank needs replenishing. It is important to keep in mind that the vehicle will not start when the AdBlue tank is empty.

Here at WR Phillips we can re-fill your AdBlue Tank. Call our Service Team on (06) 968 5676   to book in today.

Mitsubishi Tech Tip: Charge On

11/9/2017

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a Hybrid, but what is under the bonnet which gives it that moniker, and how does that help you save fuel?

The PHEV is powered by a conventional 2.0L engine coupled with two 60kw electric motors, one at each end. These electric motors can completely power the vehicle with no aid from the petrol engine. They provide zero on-road petrol consumption costs, and zero on-road CO2 emissions. The petrol engine also charges the 12kWh Lithium-ion battery which helps extend your range. The high capacity battery can also be charged through a conventional power point, providing a full charge in around 6   1/2 hours.

The PHEV has three driving modes which the vehicle selects automatically depending on battery level and driving conditions.  It switches between Full Electric mode which means the vehicle runs completely on power provided by the electric motors, Series Hybird mode which uses the petrol engine to charge the battery when charge within the battery falls beneath a certain level. The PHEV also has parallel mode in which the vehicle runs on mostly gasoline power and only partly assisted by the electric engines.

Volkswagen's Adaptive Cruise Control.

11/6/2017

Picture

Volkswagen's Adaptive Cruise Control helps to prevent accidents by keeping your vehicle a safe distance from the one in front.  Adaptive Cruise Control works together with the radar-controlled Front Assist traffic monitoring system and ensures that you have have peace of mind, especially in stop/start traffic.  You can pre-set the speed range you want the Adaptive Cruise Control to accelerate and brake your vehicle within.  The system builds in a front facing sensor to detect the speed the vehicle ahead of you is traveling and automatically reduces your speed to match. If you are too close to the car in front the system will warm you in two stages. First with audio and acoustic signals and then with a short braking jolt. If necessary the system will bring your car to a complete halt.

The Safe-distance technology's  radar sensor has a range of up to 200 meters at a beam angle of up to 12 degrees. Using the signals from the radar sensor, the control unit computes the distance to the vehicle ahead and your car's speed relative to it.
