Volkswagen's Adaptive Cruise Control helps to prevent accidents by keeping your vehicle a safe distance from the one in front. Adaptive Cruise Control works together with the radar-controlled Front Assist traffic monitoring system and ensures that you have have peace of mind, especially in stop/start traffic. You can pre-set the speed range you want the Adaptive Cruise Control to accelerate and brake your vehicle within. The system builds in a front facing sensor to detect the speed the vehicle ahead of you is traveling and automatically reduces your speed to match. If you are too close to the car in front the system will warm you in two stages. First with audio and acoustic signals and then with a short braking jolt. If necessary the system will bring your car to a complete halt.
The Safe-distance technology's radar sensor has a range of up to 200 meters at a beam angle of up to 12 degrees. Using the signals from the radar sensor, the control unit computes the distance to the vehicle ahead and your car's speed relative to it.
